Psalm 1 and PTSD

Updated: Jul 13

Psalm 1 is the foundation for understanding and applying the rest of the Psalms. It is also foundational for understanding how I will apply the Psalms to identifying the lies of PTSD and discerning the truth of God's Word.

Psalm 1 includes a warning about the counsel and habits of those who would prevent recovery from PTSD (or recovery from anything that God wants us to be free from). There is clear instruction to know how to walk in the light or how to walk in darkness.

Walking in darkness will result in being bound by lies. Notice the subtle method of the enemy to get us to submit to his lies. If we 'walk' in the enemy's counsel, then we are likely to 'stand' in the influence of sinner and eventually we will end up 'sitting' with, agreeing with those who scoff at God's Word and ways. That is exactly where the enemy wants us to be.

BUT God promises a better way. If we will delight in the 'law of the LORD' or in the word of God then we will be nourished by the living water of God, be able to produce spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) and prosper in victory over the lies of the enemy, over the lies of PTSD.

When we listen to God's Word and do what He says then we will prosper in all our ways (James 1:22-25). To reject God's word and counsel is to accept an unstable existence (James 1:5-8) that eventually perishes.

This is my prayer, that as we look at selected Psalms, we will see the lies for what they are and we will discern the truth for what it is. I pray that God will speak and we will be set free!
